I thought I saw you

I thought I saw you the other day,
But I really wasn't sure.
A shadow in among the fray.
Passed by me in a blur.

I thought I saw you the other day.
I didn't know what to feel.
A billion shades of dappled grey,
As many ways to heal.

I thought I saw you the other day.
I guess you're doing fine,
'Cause most things just work out okay
If only in my mind.

I thought I saw you the other day.
Thought maybe I should speak,
But I didn't know what I should say.
Tired. Feeling weak.

I thought I saw you the other day.
A chance for me to grow.
But I turned and walked the other way
Preferring not to know.

The above poem is apropos of nothing. It was inspired by Mama Kat over at Mama's Losin' It, whose writer's workshop for the week included a prompt to begin a post with the words "I thought I saw". So there ya go!

Head on over. Check out the writer's workshop prompts for the week. Read the many posts. Write one of your own and link up. Come on. You know you want to. It's fun.

Excellent poem. You've really captured the anxiety and denial that go with that kind of hurt.

Great poem. It seems like everyone has experienced those feelings at some point.

A lovely, thoughtful poem. Read and re-read.

(You may get this twice - I think Blogger ate it first time 'round.)

PS...do you know that your word verification is on? You can easily turn it off...
I wrote about how to do it here...

Ooh I love this! And I love that you thought outside the box and made it a poem even though it didn't say to make it a poem. Very nice!

Thanks everyone! I've been a bit busy this week, but will visit all of you and check out the rest of the writers from Mama Kat's Mr. Linky, hopefully this weekend. It's crazy right now!

Jay - Yes, I know my word verification is on, and I know how to turn it off. I also know some people find it annoying. But if I turn word verification off, my blog gets comment spam like you wouldn't believe! Every new post gets around 10 brand new spam comments the moment I hit publish. I just can't handle that, so I keep the word verification turned on.
